Meet the characters!

Albert

Sensitive, over-romantic literary nerd. Way more intellectual than any of the others, lover of poetry and art. People tend to make fun of him because he's a little feeble and quite eccentric in his tastes. He is allergic to several things (or at least that's what he thinks) and has asthma so he doesn't ever go anywhere without his pump. He loves to go to class to get away from his over-protective mother who controls his every move. Easily manipulated by the others because of his stature and nervous disposition. Carol often pushes him to stand up for himself. He falls in love easily and often.

Albert

Sensitive, over-romantic literary nerd.

Carol

Carol is a very intelligent and stubborn, painfully aware of how cruel and unjust the world is and committed to leftist political activism. She's a good student and very responsible, and also tidy and fussy with her things; as a result she's not popular with her classmates. Used to be close friends with Naomi, but the changes of adolescence mean that they now have little in common. Defends Albert against the taunts and bullying of Robbie and Flippy. Is sort of attracted to Robbie but won't admit it.

Motor

Motor is a physically challenged (left side paralysed) boy who moves around in a motorized wheelchair. It seems like he's always at odds with the world. Manners and etiquette are not his strong points and he's often rude (though not malicious). He tends to have radical opinions and shares Carol's concerns on many topics, yet is much more cynical and nihilistic than her. When he wants to escape from everything and everyone around him (which is quite often), he puts his headphones on and disappears into his music. Enthusiastic amateur DJ. Technological genius with both software and hardware. Collaborates with Flippy on hip hop projects, is a gamer with Flippy and Robbie. Doesn't get on with Naomi.

Flippy

Is a troublemaker who doesn't like to study and goes to school only because he has no other choice. He's got his parents completely fooled into thinking he gets good gradees. He wears the latest fashion and likes to think of himself as popular, attractive and funny. Thinks of himself as a rapper. Closest to Robbie, who he admires, fears and is always trying to impress; he'll go along with most of Robbie's plans but often has second thoughts. Shares Jessi's passion for skateboarding and collaborates with Motor on musical projects. He shares many of Naomi's tastes in fashion and TV, though doesn't admit to it publicly. He's not good at reasoning and is easily swayed by the arguments of others. Joins Robbie in bullying Albert, though never picks on Albert when Robbie isn't around.

Jessie

A 13-year-old surrealist who is very naïve and innocent, like Phoebe from Friends but without the selfish streak. Her classmates think she's weird because she doesn't go by the general rules like the rest of humankind. She is quite eccentric and some people even think she's missing a few screws. She's a very loving and loyal friend. She hasn't got a nasty bone in her body so it's easy for her to be completely truthful with her friends and because she's so natural about it, no one ever gets offended by her comments. Lives to skateboard, gets on well with everyone.

Naomi

The “popular” girl. Her dad recently became rich and she's quickly taken to her new lifestyle. She is materialistic and arrogant and judges people for what they have or what she can get out of them. Although she looks like a little angel who is always willing to help her neighbour, there is something really machiavellian about her. She is always scheming to better her position. She is hooked on text messaging and rarely lifts her eyes away from her cell phone (which is always the latest model). Similar to Mindy Kaling's character in The Office, or a young (and not as rich) Paris Hilton. Naomi would much rather be hanging out with a crowd of older, popular kids who we never see; because she's excluded from their clique she makes do with considering herself the coolest kid in the group of misfits who make up our cast, and has to create excuses as to why she's never with her real friends. Closest to Carol, although she thinks she's superior to her one-time best friend. Robbie is a loser, Motor is weird, Albert like a toy dog. Nice to Jessie to her face, but behind her back will say she's crazy. With Flippy there's hatred that eventually turns to love.

Naomi

The popular girl.

Robbie

Is a boy who is repeating the grade for the third time. He's the oldest in the class, although academically, you wouldn't think so. Street smart and cunning. A bully who tends to shamelessly abuse his classmates without any scruples (though he meets his match in Carol). He always carries a backpack full of spray cans because he likes graffiti. Particularly nasty to Albert. Envious of Motor and Flippy's musical collaborations, and likes to hang out with Flippy who very obviously serves as his sidekick.
